Paul Ruhlman, Trainer

Paul is an educator by trade.  He has a BS in education from Mansfield University and a Master Degree in Education from Westminster College.  Also, he has completed additional graduate course work to earn a secondary and elementary principal certificate.  Paul has served as a coach, teacher, asst. principal, and principal.

As Paul began his career as an asst. principal, he bought his first Labrador retriever.  Her name was Belle and had no hunting in her pedigree.  She loved to hunt and served as a guide dog on a shooting preserve.  Although it was difficult, Paul trained her to run blinds and do doubles.  It was his first experience training dogs and while there were some difficulties, it created a great passion for training dogs.

The second and third dogs Paul owned are Master Hunters.  Paul has titled many dogs at multiple levels and trained many others as gun dogs.

While Paul has shown his ability to train dogs succesfully at hunt tests, he continues to be a student of the game.  He is with out doubt the most focused trainer.  He watches and understands the smallest elements of dog communication.  The Allegheny Upland Retrievers training foundation combines his observations with quick decision-making skills and the ability to maintain high standards daily.

Currently, Paul runs 12 to 20 events annually.  His success is a combination of proven strategies to train field and show dogs to their maximum potential and a high level of commitment.  It is not unusual to find him by a pond every evening working with a dog by himself and enjoying every minute of it.
