At
Allegheny Upland Retrievers, we strive to create the maximum of drive, desire, and determination with control. A good labrador retriever should love to retrieve and love to hunt birds. It is our passion to bring out your hunting dogs abilities. We take great pride in every dog at Allegheny Upland Retrievers.
Whether you are looking for a great gun dog or hunt test dog, we train each dog to be versatile in a variety of situations and perform consistently in all conditions.
Gun Dog Training
Gun dog training is for those individuals who love fine hunting dogs and need a serious dog for upland and duck hunting. We focus on training your retriever to be a outstanding hunting companion in the upland and the marsh. A truly competent gun dog should be able to hunt ducks in the morning and grouse in the afternoon. At Allegheny Upland Retrievers, we train all gun dogs to the AKC senior hunt test level with additional training in upland hunting.
AKC Hunt Test Training
Running hunt tests has been described as nerve wrecking, exciting and extremely challenging. The crew at Allegheny Upland Retrievers loves our game and run a full schedule of hunt tests each year. We own the equipment, grounds, and have the experience to play the game at the highest level. These advantages will help you to enjoy working with your hunt test dog and play the hunt test game. Just like the AKC hunt tests, we divide our training into three levels:
At the junior level we develop your retriever’s desire and complete obedience and force fetching. We also prep your hunt test dog for tests.
At the senior level we continue to develop your retriever’s desire while teaching more complex skills. We teach your hunt test dog to be steady, handle and run multiples. Finally, we prep your hunt test dog for tests.
At the master level we teach complex concepts and hone your master candidate skills to the high level necessary to perform at this level. Master Hunter is the pinnacle of hunt test retriever training. We usually have multiple dogs running master hunter on the truck at all times, this gives your dog a huge advantage.
Please note: While Allegheny Upland Retrievers has trained show or English dogs successfully, we have recently decided to limit the number of these dogs in the future. If you have a show or English dog and believe it has the potential to become at least a master dog. Please contact us so we can observe the dog and give recommendations.
